I'm having my very favorite Apple Crunch today, which to me is even better than an apple pie! I have plenty to share if you'd like to join me! Would you like whipped cream or ice cream on top of yours??
Even though I use a teacup every morning, in the afternoons, mugs are my choice. This one is made by Tag, and it's perfect for Fall.
This owl is so cute, and sits on my mantle. There's a string of battery operated lights inside of him for some nighttime glow. One of my friends had her son build her an owl box and she gets an owl family every Springtime.
My yummy apple crunch is atop my pie drip shield that my dear Mom gave me years ago.
My Marine grandson gets to return to the USA during the first week of October!! Isn't that great news? His buddy that had half his face blown off has had eight surgeries so far. According to his mom, "they are slowly putting him back together". All the injured are at Walter Reed Medical Center.
Yield: 5-6
Apple Crunch
This is like an apple pie but without the bottom crust!
Ingredients
- 4 large apples, peeled (I used my apple/peeler/corer/slicer)
- 1 t. cinnamon
- some freshly grated nutmeg, to taste
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- Topping
- 1 cup flour
- 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 6 T. melted butter
Instructions
- For Topping: Mix flour and brown sugar together and add the melted butter. Stir together and set aside for 5 minutes, then break apart with fingertips.
- Lightly butter inside of 9-inch pie plate. Place sliced apples in dish. Sprinkle cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar over apples. Pour the water evenly over this. Sprinkle the topping on top of the apples.
- Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour; start checking at around 45 minutes, checking for the tenderness of the apples and for the topping to be golden brown.
Thank you for your visit! xo

ReplyDeleteYour apple crunch looks delicious Kitty! I know you and Molly will be glad when you see and hug Connor again. Thoughts and prayers for his friend going through his surgeries and family. Hope you're enjoying some more fall-like temperatures. ♥
ReplyDeleteYour apple crunch sounds great Kitty, I'd even have it for breakfast:@) Love the pie shield too, that's a fantastic idea!
ReplyDeleteWell, I would love your apple pie crunch with either ice cream or whipped cream whichever you have the most of. But alas, Mr. P. would not like this because the main reason he eats apple pie is for the crust! Don't you just love his little idiosyncrasies? ;) I love your little owl and little lights - anywhere!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful Connor gets to come back home - is it leave or will he be stationed again here? Wow, 8 surgeries in less than a month - that's so traumatic, but honestly, I didn't even realize his friend survived. I'll pray for Connor's friend and Connor's mental health. I know Marines are some of the toughest, but we all have feelings.
I would love to have apple pie crunch with you, ice cream please. It would be amazing to sit with you at this pretty table with the owl and your fall mugs. I would tell you how happy I am your Connor is returning to the US and how I pray his friend will soon have his surgeries completed. God Bless them all..........

ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful news! Connor is just days away from coming home. What a praise!!! We love apples, so thanks for posting the recipe.
ReplyDeleteOh, this looks so yummy! I always look to see if the recipe has oats in it because my dear, sweet hubby doesn't like it with oats. I think I shared that with you before, come to think of it. Anyhow, this sounds like the kind he would just love! And, oh, it did my heart good to read that Connor will soon be home with you! His poor friend! SO, so sad - can you imagine how much pain he is in continually? Dear Lord, please have mercy and help him and all who are suffering. And may the Lord bless you richly, my friend!
