Brownie Monster Cookies's a beautiful day here in Texas, and Cissy and I made Brownie Monster Cookies.  Would you care to join us?

When I was at a local antique mall with some friends, I saw a version of this arrangement that I copied,  only it was done in a sherbet/champagne  glass.  I thought this old, silver piece that once belonged to my late Great Aunt Kitty would be perfect for it. 

My late dad used to buy Royal Doulton figurines for my mom, and she gifted this one to me several years ago.

I was the lucky recipient, several times ago, of both of these pretty teacups from Stephanie's teacup exchange, from The Enchanting Rose.  I love using teacups seasonally, and I thought that both of these vintage ones were pretty for Spring. The one in the front is a Royal Stuart, and the back one is a Rosina. 

I love birdhouses, and have had this old, chippy one for years now.  I stuck it in a Kimberley Fern, which take more sun than Boston ferns.

This adorable birdhouse was a recent purchase from Ross. 

 When I picked Cissy up from school this week, it had been raining.  She was ready for her favorite cup of Vanilla Chai tea, which she likes to top with whipped cream.  She picked out this pretty rose teacup that some dear friends gave me several years ago.  


Here's the little baker with her batch of cookies. 

Look at my youngest grands!  Aren't they sweet in their matching outfits?  Before long they'll be joining me in the kitchen.

Yield: Recipe states 16; we got 2 dozen

Brownie Monster Cookies

This was an easy recipe for an after school treat for Cissy to take home to her family!


1 box (1 lb 2.3 oz) fudge brownie mix
1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 tablespoon water 
1 egg
3/4 cup M&M's
1/2  cup peanut butter chips
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips


  • Heat oven to 350 degrees.   Line cookie sheets with cooking parchment paper.
  • In large bowl, stir together brownie mix and oats. Add melted butter, water and egg; stir until well blended. Stir in candies and chips.
  • Shape dough into 2-inch balls. Place on cookie sheet 3 inches apart. Press each ball slightly to flatten.
  • Bake 12 to 14 minutes or until tops of cookies are no longer wet looking. Cool 5 minutes; remove from cookie sheets to cooking racks.

Can't Leave 'Em Alone Bars

 Come and enjoy a Can't Leave 'Em Alone Bar while we enjoy the sound of my repaired waterfall/mini pond, which needed a new liner.  It's so good to have it back in working order, because it's a little oasis that is so enjoyable.

My sweet neighbor, who lives across the street, gifted me this stacked teapot/teacup, awhile back.  It's so sweet, isn't it?  How about some Tazo Dessert Delights Vanilla Bean Macaron Tea?

Cissy baked these yummy bars to take home to her family.  We also did a sewing project that we will share later because it's a Mother's Day gift for her Mom.   The recipe for the bars comes from my friend, Debbie at Mountain Breaths.  Debbie and I are sweet tooth soul sisters, and have been blogging friends for years now.  I've made these bars before but never shared the recipe.  Debbie so kindly allowed me to share it with you. 

Yield: It depends on the size of the bars, but we got around 24 large size barsPin it

Can't Leave 'Em Alone Bars

Cissy enjoyed making these easy bars all by herself, and then taking them home to her family to enjoy!  Don't you know, the siblings love to see what she brings?!


1  pkg. white cake mix (the original recipe called for an 18-ounce box, but we used a 15.25-ounce     
box, and it worked out fine)
2 eggs
1/3 C. vegetable oil
1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
1 C. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 C. butter cubed


In bowl, combine the dry cake mix, eggs and oil.  We used an electric mixer.

With floured hands press 2/3 of the mixture into a greased 9x13 baking pan. Set remaining cake mixture aside.

In a microwave safe bowl combine the milk, chocolate chips and butter. Microwave uncovered on high 45 seconds; stir. Microwave 45-60 seconds longer or until chips and butter are melted; stir until smooth. Pour over crust.

Drop teaspoonfuls of remaining cake mixture over top. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool before cutting.

Colorful Springtime Cupcakes

 Cissy and I made these cupcakes earlier last week, before we had ANOTHER hailstorm and temperatures that dipped down in the 30's again!

 Isn't this teapot the cutest?  My sister sent this to me for my February birthday.  I'm serving some Darjeeling today.  Would you like a cup?

 This Royal Albert teacup that my mom gave me from her stash, looks like a Springtime bouquet, doesn't it?  Some of the gold gilding has worn off, but  that just means how much it has been used and loved.

 My youngest son gave me this darling basket as an Easter gift.  I'm actually using it on my kozy kitchen table.

 Cissy and I had disposable decorating bags that we filled with white cake batter that we colored in Spring colors.  We took turns in adding squirts of batter to our cupcake liners.

 Just look at these happy cupcakes!

 Here's the happy girl with one of her cupcakes that she took home to her family.

Aren't the cupcakes beautiful inside with all those pretty, marbled colors?  Cissy used a toothpick on some of them, to swirl the batter; others, she just left to see how they turned out.  We frosted them with a green buttercream.

A Mickey Mouse Tea Party

 A sweet lady from my church invited Cissy and me to the La Tea Da tea party at a local church.  We were invited last year, also, and this tea has been in the making since then.  Oh, the detail that went into this special table.  All the tables are decorated with a theme, and then they are voted on.  One lady, Ely, decorated three of the tables, and one of her tables won the grand prize.  I really thought that the table that we sat at would win, but I'm glad that one of Ely's tables won.

 Everything, and I mean everything, was Mickey Mouse related!!  We had Mickey Mouse plates, flatware, tablecloth, nameplates, goblets, etc., etc.

 Just look at this darling teapot!  The spout was cut off in the picture,  but it's also a teapot.  

Isn't this teacup the cutest??  Even the spoon was adorned with jewels in in the shape of Mickey!  In the background, on the right, you can see our take-home gift of Mickey Mouse soaps!!  Ely,  the lady who devised the theme, gave Cissy a special Mickey Mouse purse, with little gifts included. I'm telling you, this was a day of special memories.

Ely even made the sugar cubes from a Mickey Mouse mold!  Believe me, Cissy enjoyed munching on them, besides putting them in her tea.

Here's our delightful menu!  We were so grateful to be invited to this special, yearly event! 

 Cissy and I wanted a picture with Julia, who was the "Mum" of our table, and who kindly invited us to the tea.  Julia is also a widow, and Cissy and I sit with her at church, whenever Cissy spends the night with me.   Julia helped with the decorating. The men of the church are the servers, and the menu was wonderful.


 Cissy and I loved checking out all the themed tables at the tea party, and of course we voted for our Mickey Mouse table to win! Thank you so much, for coming along with Cissy and I to our tea party.

 Here's one of my grandsons, and Cissy's brother, who won at his tennis match this past week!  Way to go Caiden!!

Here is another grandson, and another brother of Cissy's, who does such an awesome job at shot put!  Way to go Riley!!!

Pineapple Upside Down Cake Skillet Cake

 I hope you all had a wonderful Easter!  Let's share a slice of pineapple upside down cake on this pretty day. The blooming pitcher has some Charmelia flowers, which I found at Wal Mart, after reading about them on Mary's blog, Home Is Where The Boat Is.  These flowers last a good three weeks, which is a real bargain.

I'm using my reproduction Royal Albert Spring Meadow teacup,  which was one of five in a teacup gift from my youngest son and daughter-in-law.

Pineapple Upside Down Skillet Cake

My cast iron skillet is smaller than a 12" skillet. I ended up using two mini bundt pans for the extra batter.


12 pineapple slices in juice (from a 20 ounce can, or 3 8-ounce cans)
16 maraschino cherries
3 tablespoons butter, melted 
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 box  yellow cake mix
1 cup pineapple juice (from can of pineapple)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3 eggs 


  • Heat oven to 350 degrees.   Add melted butter to 12-inch cast iron or ovenproof skillet. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over butter. Arrange 8 pineapple slices in bottom of skillet. Cut remaining slices in half; arrange around inside edge of skillet. Place 1 cherry in center of each whole and half pineapple slice.
  • In large bowl, beat cake mix, pineapple juice, oil and eggs with electric mixer on low speed until moistened; beat 2 minutes on high speed. Pour into skillet over fruit.
  • Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until cake is golden brown and springs back when touched lightly in center.
  • Cool cake in skillet 5 to 10 minutes. Run knife around edge of cake to loosen. Place heatproof plate upside down over skillet; turn plate and skillet over. Remove skillet. Serve cake warm.

Look how little Hayden has grown!  She is the sweetest baby...always smiling, so content, and is the happiest baby. 

For Harper's Easter bonnet parade at her school, her Mommy made this adorable unicorn hat!  Doesn't she look so proud and happy?

My son, Tim,  dropped his girls off for a few hours to spend some time with me.  We managed to make some Bunny Bark, which they were able to package and take home.  It was so nice being with these sweet girls.
