For my kitchen Valentine table, I made this topper which has vintage Valentine's printed on the fabric.
Here's a close-up of one of the designs. Isn't this sweet?
The heart bowls were purchased at JoAnn's last year. Red flatware is from Homegoods. I used my English Countryside plates.
I used my hurricane from Target that is filled with conversation hearts and topped with a heart-shaped candle.
1 T. olive oil
1 onion, chopped
1 cup diced carrots
1 lb. Italian sausage (I used Italian chicken sausage)
4 cloves garlic, minced
a sprinkle of crushed red pepper
1/2 t. basil
1/2 t. oregano
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can Great Northern beans, drained
1 qt. chicken broth
2 cups fresh spinach, roughly chopped
Parmesan cheese, for serving
Cook onion and carrots in hot oil for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Add the sausage and garlic and breaking up the sausage, cook until it is no longer pink. Add the crushed red pepper, basil, oregano, diced tomatoes, beans and broth. Bring to a boil and then turn down to a simmer, cover and cook for 15 minutes. Uncover, add the spinach and cook for an additional minute.
Ladle into bowls and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
NOTE: Tiny, cooked pasta would be wonderful in this, too! Just make sure that you cook the pasta separately from the soup in order that it doesn't get soggy.

ReplyDeleteI hope you will post this tomorrow at my "Open House". Very fun fabric and dishes and wonderful soup!
You are certainly ready for Valentine's Day :-). I'm a bit envious. The soup sounds fabulous, Kitty. I can see why it is a family favorite. I hope all is well. Have a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteThe vintage fabric for your topper brought back memories of the valentine cards exchanged in grade school when everyone would decorate a brown paper bag for our mail boxes. :-) I like the centrepiece and dishes, a pretty Valentine tablescape Kitty.
ReplyDeleteIt's still soup weather and I haven't made any for awhile - time to get out the big pot.

Hi Kitty,
ReplyDeleteYour topper brings back memories of Valentines Day at school; so cute! Love soup, especially this time of year. Your bowls are adorable. I pray your hubby is feeling better today and he will heal up quickly, my friend. You're both in my thoughts and prayers.
Blessings,
Sandi

I love your tablecloth...it is so cute. The edging on the white plate is really pretty, lots of texture.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect winter soup - thanks, Kitty!!
ReplyDeleteWhoa...I'll just bet that soup IS flavorful as all get out!!! Sounds delicious!!! I just finished dinner, but I could still sit here and scarf up a bowl of that with no problem! The spinach part kind of threw me for a loop, but I like spinach so it would just be a bonus! Pretty table setting and really neat topper! I don't know what those little people from that era are called (or if there's any name for them), but every time I see them I feel all...nostalgic! Their little faces remind me of Betty Boop...not to be confused with Honey Boo Boo! :-) Have a Happy Valentine's Day, Kitty!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat pretty linens! They are so fun and I am sure you could get distracted by all of them and not pay attention to one another as each are so adorable! Your sausage soup sounds wonderful. We make a lasagna soup that is filled with sausage and I could eat it a lot. We will have to try just a sausage soup. It is still cold here and we are still craving soups and breads and goodies of course!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute table!! Love that hurricane idea. Your soup recipe really caught my eye - unfortunately, anything with sausage appeals to me! Thanks for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteI love your table, the tablecloth you made is so pretty! Oh, and thanks for sharing a delicious soup recipe!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a perfect table topper for Valentine's Day, the vintage feel is so cute and I love the red trim on the edge. Hope you enjoy the sausage soup in you red heart shaped bowls. The table is so inviting and will be a fun way to celebrate with hearts and a candle light dinner from the centerpiece!

Hi Kitty,
ReplyDeleteThat's a great recipe for a winter soup. I must try.
Your dishes are fit for the occassion. I have a white heart bowl and having those red ones aren't bad either, huh? Drooling!
Hope you had a great day and enjoy your w/end ahead.
