This soup is so good!
I had this soup recently at a friend's house and she sent me the recipe, but I added some extra protein. She got the recipe from Trader Joe's years ago. It's quick and easy; just what we need during this busy holiday season.
These are the dumplings that I bought, and they come in a pork variety, also. My son, Mike, absolutely loved this soup.
Yield: 5-6
Asian Dumpling Soup
Melodie got this recipe from Trader Joe's and we both adapted it. I added some sausage for additional protein.
Ingredients
- 1 pound sausage (I used hot Italian)
- 1 package frozen Chicken or Pork Gyoza (Dumplings)
- 1/2 - 1 package shredded cabbage with carrots (I used packaged broccoli and kale slaw)
- 1 package baby spinach (I used about 1/2 bag)
- 2 boxes chicken broth (I used Better Than Bouillon Roasted Chicken + about 7-8 cups of water)
- seasoning to taste
Instructions
- In a large stockpot, brown the sausage until it's no longer pink. Add the spinach and cook until it starts to wilt.
- Add the shredded cabbage or slaw mix and season with salt, pepper, garlic powder and red pepper flakes to taste (I left out the red pepper flakes since I used hot Italian sausage).
- Add the broth and bring to a boil, and then add the gyoza (dumplings) and then simmer for 20 minutes or until the gyoza are heated through.
Notes
You could add whatever sausage, hamburger, ground chicken or meat of choice, or none at all.
Mike carved this turkey from two pumpkins that I saved and he took it to Molly's house for Thanksgiving.
These are five of my eight grandchildren that came to Molly and Eric's barndominium for our Thanksgiving feast.
Three of my four kids were there.
My youngest son, Kevin, and daughter-in-law Kristen, and granddaughters Harper and Hayden went to Iceland over the Thanksgiving break.
Thank you for your visit! xo
I'm sharing with these parties:

That dumpling soup sounds like a winner! Next time I get to TJs I'll have to pick up a package of those Gyoza, they look great. I'll bet it would taste great any of Costco's Asian dumplings or wontons also. What a fun Thanksgiving and so happy you got to be with 3 of your children. ♥♥♥
