A Quick Dessert and Hot Dogs with Chili Sauce

We've had so much rain lately!

I finally had time to set up a tea on the patio.  I used my tablecloth that I made from a vintage cloth that belonged to my friend Joy's mother-in-law.

This beautiful Strawberry Royal Grafton teacup was from my friend Rosie's mother's collection.

This petite dessert was just the right treat and oh so easy!  The strawberry plates came from Pier 1...I sure miss that store as they had the prettiest plates.

These mini tart shells are really good and I found them at WalMart awhile back.  I just put a little on leftover tapioca pudding inside and topped with a slice of strawberry.  I would definitely buy these again.

I love a chili dog once in awhile and made my own chili sauce.

Hot Dog Chili Sauce in Slow Cooker

Hot Dog Chili Sauce in Slow Cooker

I have a slow cooker that I can brown the meat in which makes it easy and less pots to clean.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1/4-1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1 T. mustard
  • 1 T. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 T. chili powder
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1/2 t. pepper
  • 1/2 t. onion powder
  • 1/2 t. garlic powder
  • about 1/8 t. cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine the beef and water in a skillet over medium heat. Break up the beef constantly while it is cooking to get it very fine. (I used my slow cooker that has a separate heating element and cooked the meat in the pot of the slow cooker on top of my cooktop.)
  2. Drain off any water/grease.
  3. Add the beef to your slow cooker.
  4. Add all the remaining ingredients to and stir together and let cook on low for 2 to 2-1/2 hours. I removed the lid towards the end of the cooking time, to thicken the sauce. If you want to serve this later, just keep the slow cooker on warm.
  5. Serve on hot dogs with toppings of grated cheese, chopped onion, jalapenos, etc.

Thank you for your visit!  xo

  1. My son and I were just talking about chili dogs yesterday (that versus coney island dogs and the pulled pork hot dogs we'd seen the previous day!).

  2. Oh I just love your summertime strawberry plate, tablecloth and teacup set. And that's a great idea about using your leftover pudding in those cups. Be glad you have been having rain - they're predicting the hottest summer in recorded history. Not sure if it is true but I sure hate heat and would take rain and our cooler weather any day. But the birds and garden just doesn't know what to make of it - and that's never good. Need our pollinators.

  4. Such pretty strawberry pieces Kitty! I especially love the vintage tablecloth your reworked and your sweet teacup. I do miss Pier1. So smart to use leftover pudding in your shells for a petite, sweet treat. I’ll have to keep my eyes open for those. You have me craving a chili dog now with your homemade chili sauce! We had 7 inches of rain in May so it was an unusually wet month for us. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead ♥

  8. What pretty strawberry dishes! We have Strawberry Days coming up in our new city, so I picked up some things for the grandkids. I think our house won't have sold before I can go pick some from my old garden! Those tart shells look amazing. I will have to look for them - the ideas are endless. And your chili dog has my mouth watering!

  10. The chili dogs look delicious. I love a chili dog once in awhile too. In fact, I love a good hot dog with onions and relish now and then. ; ) The table cloth you made is so cute, and I like that strawberry pitcher. You know, Pier 1 used to be my favorite shop, really miss it as well. Glad to hear that you have been showered with rain! That's always a good thing. What a sweet post this is today.

May you have wonderful June days.

  11. We just had chili dogs recently, also! We like slaw on ours with the chili, and also onions. I butter and brown the buns, and the combination is so good! May God bless you, sweet friend.

  13. Love those little shortbread dessert cups, Kitty, thank you for passing those along! What a cute set up for your tea.
A West VIrginia hotdog has chili and cole slaw, along with ketchup, mustard and onions. There's even a "slaw line" marker on one of our interstates that marks those above who choose no slaw, and those below (like me!!!) who choose the slaw. It's the bomb of hotdogs. And we have a WV company who makes and distributes their chili. It's called Custard Stand. Not sure if it's in Texas or not, but yours sounds every bit as good!
