Spicy Blackberry Jam

I made the easiest scone recipe ever that was shared by my Australian friend, Tina, and made Miz Helen's Spicy Blackberry Jam to put on them.

This sweet little Goebel was a gift from my dad years ago.  Isn't it darling?  My dad used to like to buy his own gifts and I certainly treasure them.

I just couldn't resist this Shelley teacup that I found, because I've never owned one!

This darling granddaughter, Cissy, turned 14.  She's such a little spunky angel!  I can't believe that she's starting high school this week and is a cheerleader.

Hayden came to spend the night by herself for the very first time and we had so much fun! We went swimming, played, baked cupcakes and Cissy came and we decorated them as Teddy Bears at the Beach.

She loves getting all dressed up!

Harper was supposed to have her turn alone, but she was in a "bad mood".  She had forgotten to pack her pillow and her three bunnies that she loves to sleep with.  She said, "Don't be sad, Nana.  I'll come another time."

Yield: 7- 8 ounce jars

Spicy Blackberry Jam

Spicy Blackberry Jam

This jam is so tasty and reminds me of a spicy apple butter but in a berry form. I adapted the recipe to use with Certo.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups blackberries
  • 7 cups sugar
  • 1 pouch of Certo (liquid pectin)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon butter (reduces the amount of foam)

Instructions

  1. Mix the sugar, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg in a bowl and set aside.
  2. Wash the berries and crush them with a potato masher in a large dutch oven.
  3. Add the sugar and spices to the berries.  Add the butter.
  4. Bring the mixture to a full rolling boil, stirring constantly.  Once it reaches a full boil, boil for 1 minute.  Remove from the heat and add the pouch of Certo, and stir.
  5. Return to the heat and bring the mixture to a full boil, stirring constantly and boil for 1 minute.
  6. Remove from heat and ladle into hot, sterilized jars.  Seal with the lid and ring, and process accordingly.

Thank you for your visit!  xo
