Gnocchi with Sausage and Broccoli and a Valentine Tea

I had a Valentine Tea for one! We still can celebrate even with ourselves, and I had some sugar cookies and chocolate tea.

This Johnson Bros Olde English Countryside is a pretty one for Valentine's Day, don't you think?

Harney and Sons has a delicious Valentine's Day tea that has chocolate and rosebuds.

Yummy sugar cookies are a delicious treat on this pretty plate that my son, Mike, bought from our neighbor's garage sale awhile back.  I have six of them, and they are one of my very favorites, and were handcrafted in Hungary.   Recipe for the sugar cookies can be found here.

I bought this big bag of of frozen gnocchi at Aldi's after Christmas for 99 cents, and wanted to make one of my favorite meals, and the recipe is below.

Gnocchi with Sausage and Broccoli

Gnocchi with Sausage and Broccoli

I adapted this recipe from one that I found in a local magazine. I changed it so much that it's my own now. It's a very forgiving recipe on measurements. Pretend that my gnocchi is white. I bought this at Aldi after Christmas and it was a bag of Santa hats and mittens!  I know, it looks like carrots and yellow squash, but I promise it's gnocchi on sale for 99 cents!

  • About 12-16 ounces of gnocchi
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 lb. Italian sausage, casings removed
  • About 8-10 ounces of frozen cut up broccoli, or use about 1 head, cut up
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup butter, at room temperature
  • About a 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper (or less)
  • freshly ground black pepper

  1. Cook gnocchi according to package directions. Drain gnocchi, but reserve about 1/2 cup of the pasta water and set aside.
  2. Cook the broccoli, but don't overcook it; drain and set aside.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet and cook the sausage until it is cooked through, chopping it as you're cooking it. Add the broccoli and the minced garlic, and stir until the garlic is golden, about one minute.
  4. Remove skillet from the heat; stir in the butter and enough of the reserved pasta water to make a nice sauce. Add the cooked gnocchi and toss to coat.
  5. Stir in Parmesan, crushed red pepper, black pepper, and salt if needed.
  6. Serve immediately.

Thank you for your visit!  xo
