Old Fashioned Strawberry Ice Cream

It as so hot here in Texas a week ago, and ice homemade ice cream sure tasted great!

Don't you love vintage tablecloths?  My friend, Joy, gave me this tablecloth that belonged to her late mother-in-law,  and I re-made it, using the parts that weren't stained.  I just love it!  My sis gave me the strawberry teapot that's perched on the vintage scale.  My daughter gave me the pretty flowers that still looked good from Mother's Day.

This Roy Kirkham Alpine Strawberry teacup is a favorite of mine.  I love the bee on the cup and the saucer.

My granddaughter, Avery, celebrated her 15th birthday.  She's so smart, plays select volleyball and high school volleyball,  coaches her sister in volleyball, and works as a ref and score keeper on the weekends.

Harper and Hayden spent the night and we went swimming two days.  Hayden and I had red and white polka dot swimsuits...."We match", said Hayden!

Here's Harper with my son, Mike,  their uncle.  The girls had so much fun!

Yield: 1 quart

Old Fashioned Srawberry Ice Cream

Old Fashioned Strawberry Ice Cream

This is still my favorite strawberry ice cream recipe. It takes a little bit of pre-planning, but it's so worth it.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups whole strawberries, fresh, or frozen and thawed
  • 1-1/2 cups whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, heat the milk until hot.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together sugar and eggs.
  3. Whisking constantly, gradually add hot milk to the egg mixture. Return mixture to the saucepan over medium heat. Stirring constantly, cook until slightly thickened, about 5-8 minutes. Cool.
  4. After the custard is cool, in a blender or food processor, puree the strawberries with the heavy cream. Stir this into the cooled custard. Add vanilla.
  5. Put the chilled mixture into your ice cream maker and follow the manufacturer's directions.

Notes

I have a Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker and I always keep the cylinder in my freezer ready to go for ice cream making.

To make peach ice cream , sub in 1-1/2 cups of sliced, peeled peaches for the strawberries and 1/4 almond extract for the vanilla.

Thank you for your visit!  xo

  2. Is there anything better on a hot day than homemade strawberry ice cream? I don't think so. Whatever that cube thing is in the pool, it looks mighty intriguing.

We've had that pattern in the past, and they are getting harder and harder to find. Yours looks perfect with the teacup and teapot, and that yummy ice cream!
