I've made us one of my favorite cookies to have today.

Who doesn't love a snickerdoodle for a treat?  I set my teatime on this minky quilt-as-you-go that I made several years ago.  My recipe for snickerdoodles comes from my Betty Crocker cookbook that I received for a bridal shower gift back in 1970.

My pretty pumpkin tea set is so nice for Fall.  Why can't Fall last longer??

I'm sipping some Cranberry Autumn tea today.  The tea is supposed to have an orange flavor in it besides the cranberry.  I found that I like it better with some milk in it. Isn't my teaspoon a cute one that my daughter gave to me?

This decoupaged pumpkin is a fun addition to my table.  A friend and I made them several years ago.  I don't change my seasonal decor much because I like what I have.

My son, Mike, sculpted and painted this pumpkin.  He should've been a sculptor!

Sweet little Harper turned 7 this past week!  She's a mountain biking, rock climbing, gymnastics, camping loving little one.  They went camping to celebrate her birthday.

My Marine grandson, Connor, turned 21!  God bless this boy as he serves our country.

Yield: About 6 dozen
Author: Kitty, but taken from my Betty Crocker Cookbook

This comes from by 1970 bridal shower cookbook. This is the exact recipe as Allrecipes' highly rated Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles, but that recipe has 2 teaspoons of vanilla added.

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 and 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 and 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 14 teaspoon salt
  • Topping:
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

  1. Heat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Thoroughly mix butter, shortening, sugar, and the eggs.
  3. Blend in flour, cream of tartar, soda, and salt.
  4. Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls.
  5. Mix the topping ingredients together and roll the balls into the mixture.  Place 2" apart on ungreased baking sheets.  Bake 8-10 minutes or until set.  I prefer the 8 minutes.
  6. Remove from baking sheets and cool.

I decided to be a smarty-pants and think ahead to Christmas and made some separate red and green cinnamon sugars to roll some of the balls in. I then froze these to save for gifting.

Thank you for your visit!  xo

I am sharing this with:

  1. Oh, I LOVE snickerdoodles! Now I want some! I remember making these with my mother. It was fun to roll the balls into the cinnamon and sugar. My recipe is probably very similar to yours, but it comes from the Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook that I received for MY bridal shower in 1969! How about that?! We are both vintage brides! LOL. Oh, your fall tea set is beautiful! And I love your other decorations...and that pumpkin sculpture by your son? Well, let's just say it's amazing! He is very talented. It's probably not something I'd want to put on MY table, but it is very creative! LOL. Kudos to your grandson and thanks to him for serving our country. I know you are very proud of him and rightly so. I enjoyed your post today. We are both in cookie baking moods. I baked oatmeal cookies on Saturday afternoon, another classic! Have a great week.

  2. Tis the season for cookies Kitty:@) Quite an impressive picture of Connor, yes, God Bless Our Troops!

  3. Your son's pumpkin is amazing! Those cookies look delicious; as much as I love a good snickerdoodle we have NEVER made them ourselves. Pinned.

  4. Yes, Mike missed his calling except that it is never too late.

    Happy Birthday to your grandgirlie🎈

I think Snickerdoodles are one of the best cookies going...delicious cinnamony, buttery goodness.

  5. What a delightful table setting, love the pumpkin tea set and so perfect for the season. The cookies are one of my favorites and are so tasty with tea or coffee. Sweet little Harper looks so cute, love these family pics. Also, love the photo of Connor and please thank him for me for his service to our country.........

  6. Adorable Grands and stunning pumpkin tea set. Charming table. Hugs and blessings.

  7. Can you believe I’ve never had a Snickerdoodle?? I always thought they had Snickers candy in them :) They sound so good! I would say your son IS a sculptor! I loved seeing the progress in your collage, amazing. Your decoupage pumpkin is really cute, and the picture of Connor, wow what a handsome guy! Enjoy your week Kitty!

  8. I love that picture of Connor! Handsome young man. Harper is beautiful Kitty. You have some fine grands. MIKE???? I didn't know he could do all that? WOW! Those cookies look so good. I am really needing to bake up a bath of cookies. Well, I don't need too but I sure would like one with a cup of coffee! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  9. We love Snickerdoodles here but I haven't made them in ages. You have a talented family, Kitty! And that grandson of yours is a special young man! Happy Birthday to Connor! God bless him and protect him. Have a lovely week, Kitty.

  10. Love your decoupage leopard print pumpkin, Kitty! A few years ago, I tried to decoupage some Christmas baubbles and it was a DYI fail because I didn't use the proper glue. I found ModPodge at the dollar store, so I'm ready to try again!

Happy Birthday to your grandkids. Can't believe that Connor is only 21 years old, whereas Harper is growing up so quickly!

    1. P.S. Love the cute pumpkin tea set. And Mike is very talented...his pumpkin/head gave me the creeps!

  11. Mike is very talented with the carving knife and a pumpkin! Wow. Happy Birthday to Harper and Connor.

  12. Wait. What??!?!?! That's a PUMPKIN?!??!?!??! Yes...he SHOULD have been a sculptor! My goodness! That is incredible!!!!! Such a nice pic of your grandson, Connor. Happy belated birthday to Harper!!! As for your snickerdoodle recipe, I think I have that same cookbook. I'm going to look up that recipe just for fun, but I'm glad you posted it here just in case. I LOVE snickerdoodles!!! I think they are the only think I use cream of tartar for EVER!!!!! Have a happy week!

  13. Happy Monday Kitty! Your cookies look delicious and I love your pumpkin teaset, adorable spoon, quilted minky and animal print pumpkin. Mike should go on Halloween Wars, what talent! Harper is such a cutey and Happy Belated Birthday to Connor. ♥

  14. Yes indeed, God bless your wonderful Connor! Mike should have been a sculptor...that pumpkin is amazing! I always love to visit you when it's time for snickerdoodles, Kitty. The very word 'snickerdoodles' always, always makes me smile. Loving that pumpkin tea set♡

  15. Hi Kitty,

Happy Birthday to your darling Harper -- she is such a cutie! Yes indeed, God Bless our troops as they protect and serve our country (Happy Belated Birthday to Connor, too). Your snickerdoodles look good, Kitty. I wonder if those are a regional thing because Hal and I never had them growing up, and I don't know of anyone in our family ever making them. They sure sound good, though!

Thank you for sharing recipes and news of family -- both are equally good to see. :)

Your son is just as talented as you and made an awesome pumpkin! Happy birthday to Harper and Connor. I mentioned you on the blog for the Friday Favorites November blog post I did. I hope you enjoy the rest of the week Kitty.

  18. How delicious. I have never made a snickerdoodle. Beautiful quilt Kitty, my mom used to make them. Love your vignette, leopard print. Your son is extremely talented. Wishing Connor the very best. he is so young. I think him for his service. xo

  19. Many thanks for sharing the recipe.
I think your pumpkin tea set is lovely, perfect for Autumn/Fall.
Lovely to see all the photographs within this post.
    My good wishes.

    All the best Jan

  20. This post is so full of so many good things, Kitty! God bless Connor, and I thank God for young men like him who serve our country. Mike is incredibly talented, and Happy Birthday to Harper! Mr. P's favorite cookie is a good snickerdoodle, and your tea time looks terrific. Hope you're having a good weekend. I am unpacking.....

  21. Oh, Kitty! Seeing Connor made me cry! It seems like he has grown up overnight since being a Merine and seeing all he has seen. To be thrown into the awful things so quickly! It is all too much. I know you are so, so proud of your dear boy. I am praying that God will please keep him safe and always bring him home safe to you and your family. And Mike! Oh, my goodness! I had to call to Zach to come see that amazing creation he made from the pumpkin! Zach said, "THAT'S IMPRESSIVE!" And, I wholeheartedly agree! My goodness, that is just amazing. He definitely should become a sculptor - I wish his talents could be shared with the world. That is just way too much talent to let it go to waste. I am just speechless. It always blesses my heart so much to come here and visit with you. Sending much love to you today.
