For our Cinco de Mayo celebration, I've used some bright orange fabric as a table runner and my straw placemats to go with the sombrero. I'm serving guacamole in a margarita plastic "glass" from Walgreens.
I lined the sombrero with plastic wrap and filled it with chips.
I made the chile pepper napkins with the easiest mitered corner, following the directions, found here. These turned out great! The only difference from the tutorial is that I lined mine, so that they are two-sided.
My taste in guacamole is very simple. All that's needed are the avocados and a few other ingredients. If you want more, add some chopped onion and tomatoes. Here's how I make it:
fresh lemon or lime juice ( I prefer lime)
garlic salt to taste, but I'm now adding the McCormick's Chile/Garlic salt (LOVE that stuff!)
Peel the avocado, take out the pit and mash, leaving some chunks for texture, unless you like it smooth. Squeeze in some lemon or lime juice and add the garlic salt to taste. Enjoy!
Happy Cinco de Mayo!
I am sharing this with:
Perfect timing, Kitty- thank you!
ReplyDeleteLooking pretty danged festive over there, my friend! I'll grab the tequila mix and be right over!!
Your Cinco de Mayo meal looks great Kitty! Love that you lined the napkins and I'm still enjoying that salt too! I was pleased to see Walmart restocked it last week. Have fun Sunday:@)
ReplyDeleteThis is making me really hungry...we are having chicken enchiladas for dinner tonight...I can't wait until Cinco de Mayo, gotta have my weekly fix!
ReplyDeleteLove the napkins.
It's not a fiesta without guac! Love your chips served up on your sombrero and fun chile pepper napkins :)
ReplyDeleteI am getting my appetite back, and guac will be on the menu tomorrow!! Love the napkins and the festive sombrero!
ReplyDeleteKitty, love the napkins!!! She does show a neat way to sew that mitred corner! So impressed. Thanks for sharing that. Loving the recipe for the salad! That is going to be made in the near future,.... of course served with Guacamole - isn't that our national cure all dish? Great idea with the sombrero. Can you believe I don't have one??? yep! Gotta fix that pretty soon. Have a blessed week.. xo marlis
ReplyDeleteI love guacamole! Yours looks delish. Your Cinco de Mayo table is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLove using the sombrero as a chip bowl! Just add guac.

I knew I could count on you, Kitty! So far, there's only a couple of people who seem to have done anything for Cinco de Mayo! I didn't want to be the lone wolf out there!
ReplyDeleteOK, so why don't you use fresh garlic in your guac. I'm not criticizing...just asking because you're such a great cook and I thought you might be a "guac snob." :-) Do you know if there is a salt-free version of the McCormick's Chile/Lime Garlic salt? Well, I guess that wouldn't really be a salt. Maybe there's just a Chile/Lime Garlic Powder. Ramon & I really have to watch our salt intake. Salt makes EVERYTHING taste good, but we (especially him!) have to watch ourselves very closely. Sucks to have high blood pressure. :-(
I have a few avocados in the fridge right now just waiting to be hammered into submission. Oh, no, wait...I'm the one who's gonna get hammered...on all those margaritas!!!!! :-) I'll just very simply and gently MASH the avocados.
You served up the chips in high style! Love the bright orange table runner!!!!!!! It really adds some kapow!!! Have a great week, Kitty!!!
Oh so gorgeous post!
ReplyDeleteLove the colours.
Thanks for sharing.
Hope to see you on my blog:)
Yum, yum! What a neat idea to serve the chips on the sombero! I just love your food creativity, Kitty. I know it's a pretty sure thing that when I visit you, I'm going to come away with at least one good recipe to try. This is a wonderful party idea. Thanks for sharing and now I'm going to check out the hot Mexican chicken salad recipe.

Clever idea to use the sombrero to hold chips. Your chile pepper napkins are perfect for this table. I love a good Guacomole dip, but I'm not very good at picking a ripe avocado. That close up shot of your dip made me want to stick a chip in it. laurie
ReplyDeleteWe love guacamole! The mister is in charge of preparing it for us...I will share this with him.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are just beautiful, Kitty. The guacamole looks delish!
ReplyDeleteYUM! I heard that if you leave the pit in the guacamole it will help to keep it from going brown.... Of course so does the lemmon. :) Fun table!

So festive and charming, Kitty! Thanks for including it at Foodie Friday!
ReplyDeleteKitty - I love everything about this post. From your cleverness of using an actual hat to hold the chips...the lovely homemade napkin....to the 'glass' you chose to display your guacamole. Everything sounds delicious. I love Mexican food and would sooo love to sit at your lovely table and share with you (or you with me=). Enjoy a great weekend Friend.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks so much for sharing at Weekend Potluck.
Very Cute.(love the sombrero) Very festive. Very yummy!
ReplyDeleteTwo more winners from Kitty's Kozy Kitchen! Thanks for the recipes. Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteWe love guacomale at our house and this is the way I love it. too. Sometimes I add tomatoes. One of our favorite Mexican restaurants is Gloria's at Firewheel and I even talked my husband into eating on the patio. They have the best black bean dip and serve it when they bring the chips. Our favorite Tex-Mex is the El Fenix on NW Highway at Hillcrest and has been there forever. Cinco de Mayo is a fun celebration and a great time to try a wonderful Mexican dish or place. I love your sombrero with chips. By the way, have you tried chicken verde tamales? I have bought them at Market Street but I was told Fiesta had some good tamales. Love your table celebration and have a wonderful week!
