Teddy Bears at the Beach Cupcakes

The grands that came over for Cooking/Art Camp this week had been wanting to make Teddy Bears at the Beach Cupcakes again.  We do this every year, but this Nana aims to oblige!  My beach towel and some ice tea, along with some cute cupcakes take me away.

This time, the kids decorated using trays and I used a plastic tablecloth on my coffee table.  We just pulled up small chairs, and they could reach all their itmes that I put out.  The above cupcakes were decorated by Cissy.  She had one of the teddy bears fishing for a cupcake flavored fish.  The ones are the right are playing volleyball on the beach.  The kids made balls by rolling some fruit roll-ups into a ball shape.  They're so creative!

Caiden had some teddy bears, on the left,  playing volleyball.  he used a piece of fruit roll-up for his net.  The poor teddy bear on the right got attacked!  Oh, those kids!!

Smile, Harper!!  She's ready to eat her cupcake after lunch!

Have any of you tried this iced tea?  If you like sweet tea, without calories, this is for you!  I find this at my local Kroger's , at $1.99 a box.

Buttercream Frosting

This is a super easy frosting for decorating cupcakes or sugar cookies. My son, Mike, used a little powdered sugar to make froth on the "waves". The happy teddy bear on the left is riding his surf board, made from a fruit roll-up, but the poor little teddy bear on the right was attacked by a shark!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 5-6 tablespoons milk (plus more, if needed)
  • food coloring

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Cream together the butter and powdered sugar with an electric mixer. Add the vanilla and milk. The frosting should be fairly thick. Add the food coloring to your desired color. If the frosting thickens, add a little milk.

  1. Ooh, I'd love to try that Sweet Tea. When I lived in North Carolina, we were offered either water or sweet tea in every restaurant. The cupcakes and your grandchildren are a winning combination! Harper is getting so big. xo

  7. Oh what fun and such adorable cupcakes! The tea looks really good. My preference is really unsweetened but my hubby like his sweet. For years we used tea bags for iced tea and he added Splenda in his but within the last year or so, we discovered Milo's tea in a gallon jug in the grocery stores. They make one that is artificially sweetened that is wonderful...the best we've had...tastes just like real sweet tea! Have a wonderful week, Kitty!

  11. These made me chuckle -- how cute is that?? Such creativity those kids have! I have that tea but just the regular, unsweetened. I haven't seen the sweetened but it sure sounds good. I usually have a jug out in the sun several times a week for sun tea!

  22. Kitty, oh my gosh! I love your teddy bears at the beach cupcakes. The volleyball bears are toooo cute! I've a silly question for you - when making a frosting that contains milk, do you need to refrigerate the frosted cupcakes afterwards? xo

  27. Oh how cute and what a great family you have. I missed out on that younger age with mine so I just bake stuff and give it to them. My 16 year old grandson taught me something new on the computer this week. How to download pictures to a flash drive. I am sure everyone will laugh but I didn't know how to do that. I love your post! Thanks for sharing and linking the Great Bakeoff With The Grands!

  29. Kitty, I just love it when you have Camp for the grands! I'm not a sweet tea fan myself - even my Southern grandma didn't make it sweet - but I enjoyed many a glass of Lipton iced tea at her house throughout my childhood.

  30. Harper's smile is so sweet. Love those cupcakes - bears on the beach , just perfect.
I have not heard of that tea. Mom never made hers very sweet, but I have had some that tasted like pure sugar and not a fan of that, but am tempted to try this.
