Frankenstein Pudding Cups

It's finally cold here in Texas, and my tea is inside for today.  Mr. Bear even had to put on a BOO sweater to be our host.

I made this hand appliqued piece years ago, but it originally had been framed in a large hoop.  Does anyone remember those?  I changed it into a pillow to use on my sofa.

This ghost I machine appliqued,  and it is 30+ years old.

Here's Cissy with her Frankenstein pudding cups that she's ready to take home to her siblings.  Didn't she do a great job?  The doggy dressed in a ghost costume plays the "Ghostbusters" song, and we were dancing around my kitchen to the tune!

Yield: 4-5 cups

Frankenstein Pudding Cups

I bought clear cups from the Dollar Tree to use for the pudding. Don't they make a fun Halloween treat? Use a black permanent marker for the face, and have a glue gun handy for the ears.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Homemade or boxed vanilla pudding, tinted green
  • Thawed frozen whipped topping, or homemade whipped cream
  • Chocolate Sandwich cookies
  • Rolos

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Make your vanilla pudding and tint it green. Fold in several scoops of thawed frozen whipped topping, or homemade whipped cream. Set aside.
  2. Crush some chocolate sandwich cookies in the food processor, or by hand in a food storage bag, with a rolling pin.
  3. Fill the cups with the pudding mixture. Add about an inch of the crushed cookies for Frankenstein's hair.
  4. Add the facial features and a scar. Glue on the Rolo candies for the ears. There you have it...a cute and edible Halloween treat!

Creepy Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

My fun witch is our hostess for today!  Cissy and I made cupcakes with gummy fingers that Cissy stuck in the frosting.  Won't you join us?

I made this towel years ago and I thought it would make the perfect table covering.

Here's Cissy with two of the three plates of cupcakes that she was able to take home to her siblings.  It was her idea to make red velvet cupcakes, and you can find that recipe here Don't you just know that she's loved when she comes home? The gummy fingers came from Target.

Yield: Enough to frost 24 cupcakes

Cream Cheese Frosting

This frosting is so yummy and Cissy wanted a cream cheese frosting for our red velvet cupcakes.  Cissy used some red frosting to add for "blood".  You can see my son's cupcake in the background with a hand coming out.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, softened
  • 1 (8-ounce) package of cream cheese, softened
  • 4-5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Put the butter and cream cheese in a bowl and beat with a mixer. Add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, and beat well. Add the vanilla and mix.

Pumpkin Krispie Treats and a New Granddaughter

We are celebrating with a special tea for a new granddaughter that was born !

Cissy and I made some pumpkin krispie treats, and she got to take some home to her siblings.

My sister had told me how she made these cute pumpkins for her co-workers.   Cissy and I just made the regular Rice Krispie treat recipe, but we colored the marshmallow mixture a pretty orange, and then shaped them into balls.  We sprayed our hands with cooking spray, but really, water on the hands is the best for keeping them from sticking.  We then put a Hershey Kiss on top and then Cissy made some stems with some green icing.

I have a new granddaughter that was born to my youngest son, and daughter in law.  Isn't she beautiful??  Her name is Hayden Catherine and she was born on October 14th.

Mama and baby are doing great!

Harper is now a big sister!!
