Vacation in Utah

My youngest son and daughter-in-law invited me to join them for their last week of a month long vacation in Utah, and I didn't let Covid-19 steal my joy!!  Actually I felt that airports and airlines were cleaner than ever, and I felt very safe.
Kristen had to work for most of the week, and couldn't join us, but on this day we went to Wasatch National Forest, and this was at Mirror Lake.

The girls are pretty good little hikers!  The first two and a half weeks they traveled all around Utah, and even stayed in a teepee, went kayaking, and visited National Parks.

I joined the girls inside this little log playhouse.

We also took a train ride and were serenaded by a violin playing lady who took requests for songs.

The girls took turns sitting with us.

This was a view from our condo, of the alpine slide.

We took a ski lift up to the top of the mountain.  Yes, we had to wear masks until we got on the lift.

Hayden and I enjoyed the slide, but Kevin and Harper beat us, of course.  Harper said, "Why'd you go so slow, Nana?"  I told her that it was my first time and the next time, I'd go faster!

The girls and I had a tea party while their parents were packing up the night before we left.  I found some placemats in the cupboard and used a cutting board for our tray.  I had brought a tiny tea set that my sister had given to me.
I also brought cookie cutters to make some open faced tea sandwiches.

Both girls enjoyed pouring the Bigelow Botanical Cold Water Infused Herbal, Caffeine Free teabags that I brought along.

They had some pictures done while they were there.  Isn't this a nice family picture?

Thank you for visiting our time in Utah!

Rocky Mountain High

Do you remember the song "Rocky Mountain High...Colorado",  by John Denver?  Well, that song was playing in my head while on vacation with my youngest son, Kevin,  DIL, Kristen, and granddaughter, Harper, as they whisked me away to the beauty of Colorado!  Oh, what a time we had!  This was our view from our condo's balcony!

Our second morning, we were greeted by this magical rainbow!

We took the gondola up to the top of the mountain.

Harper had fun playing in the snow, making a snowman, and throwing snowballs.

Riding down the hill on her Daddy's lap was such  fun!

We drove to Rocky Mountain National Park.

We made it to the Continental Divide.

We saw female elk on one of our favorite stops.

On the way back from the National Park, we stopped at the town of Grand Lake, had lunch and there was a beach, where Harper could play.

Sapphire Point was a spot that my friend, Joy, told me about.  Little chipmunks were all around, in and out of the rocks, and such fun to see.  There was also a easy hike which we took.

We even went panning for gold at a nearby mine....no luck, though, in our pans!

This darling lavender house, with the purple trim, caught my eye, and I immediately thought of  friends, Margie, from Tea In The Valley, and Judith, from Lavender Cottage and Gardening, and had to get a picture.

I could move right into this darling, little cottage!

Gorgeous, overflowing hanging baskets were everywhere!

I always take time to stop and smell the flowers, and admire their beauty.

Speaking of beauty...these two special mother/daughter friends honored me by driving an hour from their homes to meet me for lunch.  I have known sweet Stephanie, from The Enchanting Rose, for several years, through blogging, and she paired me up with her dear Mom, Debbie, from, She Graces Her Home In God's Beauty, at her very first teacup/mug exchange, which was four  years ago.  You can really get to "know" friends through their writing and blogging.  However, it was so nice to meet them for real, in person and chat the hours away.  They are as kind,  wonderful, and dear as you would expect.

Stephanie and Debbie gifted me with these thoughtful gifts.  Thank you, my friends, for your thoughtful gifts.

Thank you, sweet family, for sharing your vacation with me!  What a fun family you are to be with! These memories will be with me forever, and I am truly grateful.

Visiting Savannah and Charleston

My visit to Savannah and Charleston was with two friends that are sisters and they let me tag along to these places that we all have been wanting to see.  The home that we stayed in is in the top left corner, and was built in 1899,  and had a beautiful square (park) across the street.  The sisters let me have the master bedroom suite.  Isn't the mirror over the fireplace unusual?  The fountain was one of several that were on the patio courtyard to the side of the house.

Being in Savannah, we just had to pay a visit to Paula Deen's restaurant, The Lady and Sons, which had a wonderful buffet, which Sylvia had made reservations ahead of time.   We also stood in beginning at 10:00 to eat at the family style lunch at Mrs. Wilkes'.  I actually counted 23 different dishes that were passed around the table!!  We gave Paula Deen's a 4-Star and Mrs. Wilkes' a 5-Star.

Pat, who is sitting in the middle, and I,  just love our tea and we were excited to find Gryphon's, which is run by the Savannah College of Art and Design, and looks like an English Pub.   Coffee- loving Sylvia was a good sport and joined us.  We all had a pot of a different tea and we gave our teas a 5- Star, but the tea meal, and the experience a 2- Star, as it was a bit disappointing.

We did love the romantic look of Savannah with the Spanish Moss draped from the trees, and Pat and I visited an old cemetery, but the headstones were so worn that we had a hard time deciphering anything.  The Cathedral was so beautiful both inside and out.

We took the Amtrak from Savannah to Charleston and really enjoyed the experience.   I was happily surprised to see more leg room, a chair that reclined decently, a leg rest and foot rest.  What a nice way to travel and it was only $16.00 and took 1 hour and 40 minutes.  We took a taxi to our new abode in Charleston.

Of my goodness, were we ever charmed by our cottage, pictured in the top left corner, in Charleston! The cottage had actually been the slave quarters at one time, and sits behind the main house., which was built in 1820.    The furnishings were perfect and we were so happy that we went here after our Savannah home.  The owner provided such wonderful amenities for our stay, such as eggs, yogurt, soft drinks, half and half, an assortment of snacks, fruit, wine, coffee, tea and sweeteners. I can't rave enough about this delightful home.  We all felt that we could move right in and be perfectly happy.  It reminded me of the quaintness of the cottage in the movie, The Holiday.

There are so many wonderful restaurants in Charleston and we enjoyed the food immensely, except for our first try of Boiled Peanuts! We took a harbor boat cruise which was narrated by a former history teacher, and learned so much about the area.  We took carriage rides (which we loved), and trolley tours at both  Savannah and Charleston and took advantage of the free buses.  Everyone in both cities were so friendly and polite.

I was captivated by the window boxes and the architecture, and enjoyed walking around both cities.  On our last day after breakfast, we strolled through the Farmer's Market, which was one of the nicest that I've ever seen.

I hope I've inspired you to visit these cities to experience Southern hospitality for yourself.

Returned From Paradise

Ahhh...welcome to our villa at Hanalei Bay Villas that my youngest son and daughter-in-law rented in Kauai.  We were happy to arrive in paradise.  Our villa had a living area, kitchen, eating area, and half bath, along with the lanai, on the first floor.  On the lower level, were three bedrooms and two full baths, and another lanai.

This is the view from right across the front of the villa.  Later on down, you will see what it looked like at sunset.

While my family members napped, I set up a tablescape.  I picked some double hibiscus for a pretty centerpiece.  Wish you could've joined me with some Coconut Pull Apart Loaf and a cup of tea.  The amenities at the villa were wonderful, with everything that you could possibly think of.

The choice of  the dish pattern was perfect for enjoying the lush tropics, don't you think?

This cute bird kept me company!  It's called a red-crested cardinal.  The picture isn't that clear because it was taken through the screen door.

My son treated his wife and I to a luxurious massage at the St. Regis Princeville, which was within walking distance.

After our massage, we met Kevin, while my other son, Mike, watched Harper while she was napping.  Kristen and Kevin enjoyed some Poke, which is a raw fish salad in Hawaiian cuisine,  that is served as an appetizer.  Did I partake, you ask?  No, I just couldn't!  Kristen said that it's a "generational thing"!

Here's our beautiful view from the lanai.  Wouldn't you love waking to this each morning?  I know that I sure did!

Here's the sweet family enjoying the waves and warm water.  We visited several beaches while in Kauai, but the beach at the St. Regis, which we had access to, was our favorite one.  My sons and DIL all snorkeled and enjoyed seeing the various fish.

While walking, we saw this sign and had to take a picture! Harper sure had fun with her Uncle Mike!

Here are the brothers enjoying the boogie boards, which were provided by the villa owners.  They even had sand toys for my granddaughter to enjoy.

We took a trip up to Waimea Canyon, but Harper doesn't look too happy about it!

EVERYWHERE you go there are chickens and roosters walking around the  island!  Yes, they wake you in the morning, too!  The day starts early at the island of Kauai.

God provided us with a gorgeous sunset for our last evening in paradise!

We enjoyed a breakfast at the St. Regis for our final morning before heading to the Hyatt Kauai for a day pass.  Since our flight didn't leave until 9 pm, and we had to leave the villa by 10 am,  Kristen arranged for us to go there for the day.  We had another wonderful time enjoying the Hyatt Resort.  However,  Kevin crashed in the bed, as he had fever and chills, but he was just thankful to sleep the afternoon away in the room that was provided.  Being at the Hyatt was a lovely reminder,  as my late beloved hubby and I went to this very same resort back in 1995, when we visited Maui and Kauai for our 25th Anniversary.  It is still as beautiful as it was back then.
