Apple Crunch

I was able to set up a tea for us before the rain came.

My beloved Mom's picnic cloth is gracing my table.  It's so very old and feels like soft flannel.  Soon a cover will need to go over my little waterfall because the bald cypress tree (to the right) makes a mess when it's needles drop.

This little tin pumpkin is one I've probably had for over 30 years and came from Michael's for 99 cents.  It's cute lit up or today with a canning jar inside to hold my Fall flowers.

This is a Queen Anne teacup which is another Fall favorite.

This is another tea from Margie that is so delicious and perfect for this time of the year.

My apple crunch makes my home smell so good!  What's different about this recipe is that there in so oatmeal in it.  Would you like ice cream or whipped cream with your apple crunch?

Apple Crunch

Apple Crunch

This is such a comforting dessert that I've been making for years.

Ingredients

  • Topping:
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans, optional
  • Apple Part:
  • 4 large apples, peeled
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Topping:
  3. Mix together the flour and brown sugar, and pecans, if using, and then add the melted butter. Mix well and set aside. You want this mixture to form clumps.
  4. Apple Part:
  5. Lightly butter a 9-inch pie plate.
  6. Cut peeled apples into quarters, slice and place in pie plate. Sprinkle the cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar over, and mix. Pour the water ever this evenly.
  7. Now break apart the topping into clumps with your finger tips, and sprinkle over the apples.
  8. Bake until golden brown. I like my apples very tender, and I leave it in for 1 hour.

My youngest grandchild, Hayden, turned 8 and she had a Halloween dress up party, and I was asked to wear a costume, too.  Her mom, my DIL Kristen, had everything so perfectly decorated and she had a surprise entertainment which was the SNAKE MAN!  Eeek!!  Hayden loves snakes and the snake man provided many varieties which were all non poisonous ones.  He also gave a lot of information about each type. I didn't touch any, although my son teasingly chased me with one,  but I did learn a lot.

Thank you for your visit!  xo

I'm sharing with these parties:

  2. Oh wow Kitty...snakes! I don't like snakes or even being near them. I get nervous in the reptile area at zoos.๐Ÿฅน You are so brave to be so close at Hayden's birthday party. How sweet to use your Mother's tablecloth...that makes your table so special and your Queen Anne tea cup is perfect along with your tin pumpkin of flowers. Apple Crunch sounds and looks delish. Enjoy your October...the days are flying for me. ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿฟ️๐Ÿ‚

  5. I love it all. The apple treat sounds delicious.
My friend Judy has that same tablecloth, she moved away about 2 and 1/2 hours away and I miss her. I do text her daily, so happy we have that technology.

  6. That sounds so delicious! I like ice cream with mine since I'm not really a whipped cream fan. What a fun birthday party... even though I am not really a fan of snakes either.

  8. Happy Monday Kitty, Your apple crunch sounds so good and perfect to pair with Sweater Weather / Pumpkin Chai Tea. Love your mom’s colorful tablecloth and your cute pumpkin vase of flowers. Isn’t it funny that Hayden likes snakes? I’m not afraid of them unless I run into one unaware, but I wouldn’t volunteer to pose with one around my neck like Kristin! Love seeing all those cute girls’ smiling faces. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿงก

As for snakes… I don’t mind looking at them if they are confined. But I could never hold one.
Have a lovely week, my friend.
