It turned rather chilly here in Texas, and my tea is inside today. I've baked us an easy apple strudel, if you liked to try a slice.
I'm using another trio set that my late Great Aunt Kitty painted.
I found this Susan Paley vase on ebay and her name is Serena. She was only $3.99, but the shipping was over $10.00. I went back recently to check on others, and she was $45.00!! I'm thinking that I got a good deal!! I did the cross stitch several years ago.
My strudel was placed upon this beautiful serving dish that my youngest son and daughter-in-law gave me for my birthday. I have two other pieces similar to this that they gave me.
This company will inscribe a message on the back, which makes it so personal.
The strudel is placed upon this most delicate tablecloth that I believe was my Aunt Kitty's.
This is the border on the tablecloth. All the white parts are hand embroidered. I so wish I could ask where this came from. My Aunt Kitty and Uncle John didn't have children and they traveled a lot. Aunt Kitty was like a grandmother to me, since her sister, my grandmother died when I was probably 3-4 years of age.
Yield: 6
Easy Apple Strudel
This is a great recipe to have on hand when you need something easy but impressive.
Ingredients
- 1/2 pkg. Frozen Puff Pastry (1 sheet)
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 can apple pie filling
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (or to taste)
- a few gratings of fresh nutmeg (if desired)
Instructions
- Thaw pastry at room temperature for 3o minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Mix egg and water and set aside.
- Unfold pastry on lightly floured surface. Roll into a 16"x12" rectangle.
- Cut up the apples with kitchen shears to make smaller pieces. Add the cinnamon and nutmeg.
- With short side facing you, spoon the pie filling on the bottom half of the pastry to within 1" of edges.
- Starting at short side, roll up like a jelly roll. Place seam side down on a parchment lined baking sheet. Tuck the ends under to seal. Brush with egg mixture. Cut several 2" long slits 2" apart on top.
- Bake for 35 minutes or until golden.
- Cool on baking sheet on wire rack for 30 minutes.
- Slice and serve warm .
Notes:
I sprinkled the top of the strudel with some sparkling sugar before baking. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
Thank you for visiting! xo

ReplyDeleteI used to love apple strudel when I was a girl. Mother found it weekly at the grocery store. I haven't had any since. I'm pretty sure that I should continue skipping it. I know that yours is much more delicious than any I ever had.
Kitty, loving that pretty teacup and oh that darling little platter with the inscription on it from your kiddos. How absolutely precious. Your apple strudel looks so good and too pretty to eat. I need to make one of those for Marty. He would enjoy it so much. Pinning your recipe. I hope your week is lovely Kitty and that you enjoy some lunches by your waterfall. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty tea cup that you aunt painted Kitty. The platter is so nice and special that it's engraved. The apple strudel looks and sounds just delicious. Thanks for the recipe. Enjoy your week Kitty.
ReplyDeleteKitty, Your apple strudel looks delicious and easy too! Love your pretty teacup and beautiful embroidered cloth. Your sweet vase WAS a bargain...I've noticed a huge jump in prices since the pandemic. Your monogrammed platter is so beautiful and special too with the message on the back! We're cooling down some this week which I don't mind. It's too early in spring for 80 degree temps. Happy Monday ♥
ReplyDeleteI would love to join you for apple strudel Kitty, it looks delicious. Such a lovely place setting from your Aunt Kitty and I know you treasure it. I love the color and it looks so pretty on the cloth. Lovely dish from your family for pretty presentations and I love how the back has a message. We've cooled way down here making our spring all the better. Hope you enjoy a lovely week........
ReplyDeleteThat strudel looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteSerena was a great ebay score!
ReplyDeleteI'm also admiring the elegant serving tray with personalized message. The apple strudel looks delish! Do you ever serve it with sauce?
This reminded me of the fine, delicate strudel that my grandfather used to make. Now he did everything from scratch (which is probably why I've never attempted it!) but your recipe makes me want to try this! I think that tablecloth is amazing . . . such fine and delicate work. That's such a wonderful gift to have a personal sentiment on the back of the dish . . . what a treasure! We are getting ready for temps in the TWENTIES tonight and snow tomorrow which even for US is insane! Fortunately it won't last and we should be back in the 60's by the weekend. I always wish I lived in such a warm, beautiful place like you! Some day . . .
ReplyDeleteThat Sasha Nicholas piece is just divine, with the inscription on it. How precious a family treasure it is now! You did well on that Ebay buy, despite the high shipping!
ReplyDeleteKitty, this week's post sends out all the feels! Homemade apple strudel, handmade cross stitch, personal family gifts....nothing better! Hoping you have a great week.

I had a Great Aunt Mabel who did painting like your Aunt Kitty. I had (ex husband forced me into full time RVing about 10 yrs ago) to give away my collection (a big part of him being my ex!) I especially cherish the two pieces of jewelry my Aunt Mabel made for me in my early teens.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that your creative Aunt Kitty would be absolutely delighted to see how you've enfolded her treasures into your everyday life.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
I like the unique items you featured in this post, including the apple strudel! :D I've never tried painting china, but I have a friend who paints beautiful pieces! Thanks for sharing yours.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be thinking of strudel all day! Looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteI love your charming vase and embroidery.
Aunt Kitty's china is gorgeous and such a treasure.
Our week has been beautiful but Saturday we had one thunderstorm after another and received very close to 4 inches of rain. Today is sunny and beautiful. Higher temps all week for us.
What a pretty tea, Kitty - the strudel looks delicious and all the sweet serving pieces are so special. What a lovely gift the platter is, and your Aunt Kitty's tea setting is just so pretty. The lady vase is cute and you really got a deal on that. Love your needlework, too. Our weather has turned cool again, too. We had 80 degrees last week and this week in the 50's. We even had some hail today! I think it's wonderful that your Aunt Kitty was like a Grandmother to you. I had a special Aunt - Mary. Love those sweet Aunties! Sending hugs xo Karen
