No-Roll Pie Crust

Let's enjoy some quiche by my little waterfall today, shall we?  My little lady vase is sprouting some mini roses and some other flowers from my garden.

This is one of my favorite springtime teacups that I received from a teacup exchange, several years ago.

I shared this no-roll pie crust when I first started my blog, before anyone even visited me, and it is so quick and easy.  Everything is measured and prepared right in the pie pan. I know, I know, there are those who only believe in a pie crust made with butter, shortening, or a combo of both, but please try this.  It is made with oil, but it is really flaky, and pretty amazing!

No-Roll Pie Crust

Yield: 1 single crust pie shell
Author:
I cut this recipe out years ago from a Penzey spice catalog, and it comes in handy. I do hope you try it, and see for yourself how flaky it is.

ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 t. sugar
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1/2 cup oil (I use canola)
  • 3 T. milk

instructions:

How to cook No-Roll Pie Crust

  1. Put all ingredients in a 9 inch pie pan. Mix with a fork until well blended & pat into the pan. Push the pastry up the sides & form a nice edge with your thumb & finger. Prick the crust with a fork to prevent bubbling of the pastry during baking.
  2. Bake at 425 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until light golden brown. I used my convection oven & turned it down to 400 degrees.

NOTES:

For a quiche, I pre-bake the crust for about 7-8 minutes before filling and then do the baking. For an pie that does not require baking, bake the crust, let cool and then fill. For a single crust pie that requires baking, make the crust, fill, and then bake as directed.

I added a new birdhouse above my waterfall.  The spider plant and pot, was gifted to me from a friend that moved to the Texas Hill Country.

Here's my cleaned up fairy garden.

When Cissy comes over during the week to bake after school, she likes to enjoy a cup of chai tea with a mound of whipped cream on top!  We like having our tea parties outside on the patio, while we chat and enjoy each other's company.

After she finishes the whipped cream, Cissy likes to place her stroopwafel on top of her teacup, for the caramel to melt that's in the middle of the cookie.  Cissy made cheerleader for next year, and had just received her uniform.

My four-year-old granddaughter, Harper, was so happy to spend the night.  She asked her Daddy if she could stay "for five days"!  Breakfast and tea in bed is something that she looks forward to.

Harper set up her own tea party before her Daddy and baby sister came to pick her up.  She cried so hard before she left!  We will have to arrange a "five day" stay soon!

Thank you for your visit!  xo

I am sharing this with these lovely parties:

  1. I don't wonder Harper would not want to go home! How precious to be served breakfast in bed by you. She will hold these memories close to her heart forever. Such a precious photo. Oh my, now that is a mound of cream on top of Cissy's chai tea. My goodness your home abounds with fun. Love your waterfall Kitty. The new birdhouse is perfect. As for "easy" no roll pie crust....is there such a thing?? =)

  2. Kitty, I love seeing Cissy's sweet smiling face but that little Harper makes my heart melt! No wonder she doesn't want to go home...so much fun at your house! I have fond memories of my grandmother making my sister and I breakfast and serving it in a teaset that she bought for us when we got to visit her. It was a 6 hour drive in the car to visit her, so it wasn't as often as we would have liked. I'm intrigued by your no roll piecrust, I'll have to give it a try! ♥

  4. Hello Kitty, oh this is such a nice post. I too love the pretty waterfall and the cute fairy garden you made. I wish I could have one but I have too many squirrels running around here. You granddaughters are just the cutest. Having the tea together is so special and the pie crust sounds so easy to make. Hope you have a great day and week.

  9. I must try your pie crust Kitty! I usually just buy the prepared one, but this looks so easy and ingredients are all staples, thanks for reposting! You must have felt so bad with Harper's crying, but so good too that she wanted to stay with you, so sweet! You and Cissy have such a strong bond, that is wonderful...isn't it risky serving tea in bed to a child 😂 I'd be a nervous wreck!

  10. Kitty, I remember that little lady planter vase. Too cute! And I'd not heard of no roll pie crust before. I will definitely have to try it! Love seeing all the granddaughters. How precious the time is spending it with them. They clearly enjoy your company! xo

  11. Your grandkids are too cute! Has Cissy seen the "Bring it on" cheerleading movie with Kirsten Dunst? The other day, I saw trailer for a new cheerleading movie called "Poms". It's about a group of ladies in a retirement home who take up cheerleading. One of the leads is Diane Keaton.

  12. How sweet these two granddaughters are and what a loving grandmother you are to them. Placing a stroopwafel on top of a cup of tea is something my mother-in-law did in her latter years although she was not Dutch. Now, we do it occasionally in her honour.
The pie crust recipe sounds easy - I'll be trying it out!

  13. Oh Grandma...what could be better than your grandchildren wanting to stay a LONG time with you??? That's so sweet and blesses my heart to know. And who wouldn't be thrilled with breakfast in bed??? WOW! Love all the pictures and the tried and true recipe. Thanks much for sharing. Seems I'm always looking for a 'better' pie crust recipe. I will be sure to try this one.

  14. Now THAT is my kind of pie crust! I bet it is delicious and I love quiche. Your patio looks like such a great place to have your tea parties and I know Cissy must be so excited to have made the cheering squad... Congratulations to her! Let me just say that someone would have to get up awfully early in the morning to feed me breakfast in bed! If I spend the night with you would you feed me at 5 AM?? LOL!

  18. Aw, that is so sweet that she wanted to stay for five days! And so sweet that you serve her breakfast and tea in bed! No wonder she wants to stay!! Your pie crust sounds so wonderful and easy to make. I am planning to try it when my husband and I make a cherry pie together soon. :) I wonder if you can use melted or softened butter instead of the oil? I may just try it to see! Many blessings to you, sweet friend.

  19. Kitty, you are such a gracious host, I'm sure I wouldn't want to leave either--I'd probably cry, too! Your waterfall must have a very cooling effect on a hot summer day.

  20. I have never made a pie crust in my life (and really don't want to) but maybe I could actually handle this one:) Love your blog background...gingham is my FAVE, especially black gingham. My granddaughter (just turned 13) has always loved staying here with us and I am so very thankful for that. Some afternoons after school she stays even after her parents have come home (down the street). She knows where she is spoiled:) but oh what a sweetie.
