Patriotic Trifle

How about a quick last minute trifle for Independence Day? I recently made this for my water aerobics group's luncheon and it was a hit.  I made a small one for myself and for my son to enjoy.  These pretty dishes were bought at a thrift store years ago and they're called Liberty by Coventry.  I love their look and with my  pottery pitcher from Marshall, TX, that my friend Joy gave me when we first moved here 36 years ago.  The stemware belonged to my maternal grandmother.

I love the primitive look of these dishes.  Homespun fabric goes so well with these dishes and I made some napkins and the table runner.

This dessert looks so pretty in clear glass; a punch bowl would be pretty, too.

Patriotic Trifle

I made an angel food cake from a box mix, but you could purchase a ready made one, or use pound cake, or even brownies.

Ingredients

  • 1 angel food cake
  • 1-8 ounce pkg. cream cheese, softened
  • 2 pkgs. instant vanilla pudding (can use sugar free)
  • 3-1/2 cups milk
  • 1-8 ounce container of frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • blueberries, washed and set aside
  • strawberries, washed, stemmed, cut up and set aside

Instructions

  1. Cut up the angel food cake into cubes
  2. Cream the softened cream cheese in a bowl and set aside.
  3. Mix the puddings with the milk and mix until it is blended and thickens.
  4. Add the pudding to the cream cheese and mix until blended. Add the thawed frozen whipped topping.
  5. Add some pudding mix to the bottom of your trifle dish. Next add a layer of angel food cake cubes, and then a layer of berries, repeating for about 3-4 layers.
  6. On the top, do a decorative layer of berries.

Notes

You can prepare all this and put aside the pudding/cream cheese/ Cool Whip mixture in the fridge, and then assemble before needed. You could also prepare it completely a few hours in advance and keep in the fridge. I think more than a few hours and the berries might get soggy.

I was able to take these two beautiful granddaughters out this past week.    Look at the hot chocolates that they ordered!!  Cissy is in the bottom left, and Avery on the right.  Since Avery is 16 and driving, she met us at the restaurant.  Cissy turns 16 next month.

I am leaving for Colorado soon and will be back in a few weeks.  Happy 4th of July!

Thank you for your visit!  ❤️๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ’™

  7. Your patriotic table setting is a wonderful tribute to Independence Day. Mason jar mugs have been used for iced tea, but this is the first time I've seen them used for hot chocolate. Enjoy your trip to Denver!
