Brownie Pudding

I'm sharing my tea and dessert in my bedroom today.

Brownie Pudding is one of my all-time favorite desserts that I've been making since the 1970's.  It's so unbelievably good and perfect for Valentine's Day or anytime.

I've had this fabric in my stash for so many years.  I made a tablecloth from it years ago, but kept the extra fabric, and decided to use it up and made a tea cosy and some no-sew ornaments for my Valentine tree.

Isn't this teacup pretty for Valentine's Day?  It came from a teacup exchange years ago.

From the extra fabric I used Heat 'n Bond to fuse the fabric to felt and cut around with pinking shears.  I even attached the ribbon with Heat 'n Bond.  They made for cute ornaments on my tree.

This is my mantle for February.

These vintage cards really are the real thing.  My sister and I found that my late beloved mom had kept them and they are from when I was a baby.  Aren't they sweet?

Brownie Pudding

Brownie Pudding

I have been making this dessert for years and years and it's one of my all-time favorites. It's quite magical and makes it's own sauce as it bakes. The brownie part is put in the bottom, and the sauce part on top, but it all reverses in the oven. There are no eggs in this. Oooh my...delicious!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sifted flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4-1 cup chopped walnuts (I leave these out)
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 and 3/4 cups hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Spray a 8x8x2" pan.
  3. Sift together first five ingredients.
  4. Add milk, oil, and vanilla; mix smooth. Add nuts, if using.
  5. Pour into the prepared pan.
  6. Mix brown sugar, and 1/4 cup cocoa powder; sprinkle this over the batter.
  7. Carefully pour the hot water over entire surface.
  8. Bake for 45 minutes and see the magic happen!
  9. Serve in bowls with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

We had freezing temperatures and snow in Texas this past week....brrrrrr!  I keep my pump in my waterfall on for 24 hours per day to keep it from freezing.

Thank you for your visit!  xo

  4. That snow & ice wasn't a very nice way to celebrate Groundhog Day, was it?! I'm glad your pump didn't freeze, that would've been a tragedy. The brownie pudding looks and sounds like true comfort food for that weather, especially. Love your cozy and handmade Valentines, but those from your childhood take the cake...er, pudding!❤

  5. Such a fun post Kitty. This brownie pudding is something I have never had and sure looks delicious. Your tea cozy is so sweet and ornaments to match. We keep our pump going and the whole thing is covered in thick ice. You can just see the water coming out under all that ice. I am glad I am not a fish - a very cold fish!

I have a butterscotch one made the same way, but this being February with Valentines Day on the way, your chocolate pudding is very tempting. I will definitely bake it up. 14. Your Valentine's Day tree, decor, and vintage cards are adorbs!

I don't think I've ever had brownie pudding before. YUM!

How exciting to get some snow! Back in December, I stuck a wooden Christmas tree sign (from Dollar Tree) in one of my outdoor planter. It's now frozen so I guess I'll have to wait until April to get it out. LOL.

  22. Your pretty teacup is perfect for Valentine's Day, Kitty. I must be one of the very few people who don't like Brownie pudding - I've never been able to enjoy it, although my mother loved a butterscotch version, too.

  26. Oh, my! This sounds so delicious! It reminds me of a recipe I use from the Aunt Bee Mayberry cookbook called "Bullet Brownies." They have this crusty part on top that forms, and oh, they are so delicious. I got your precious email and will respond as soon as I can. Much love to you, sweet friend.

  27. Kitty, this is a real blast from the past! I was just thinking about this last week. Made it in the 70s when I was young and still thought chocolate was the best flavor on earth. Then when my taste for chocolate all but disappeared in my mid-20s I lost the recipe. But here it is! Thank you. Because I still like to make chocolate desserts for other people.
