Ella and Cissy had decided that they wanted a lemon themed tea party for our next one. However, Cissy couldn't come and Avery, Ella's big sister couldn't come either, but Ella wanted to. Ella likes to coordinate her outfit to our theme, and she found a shirt of her sister's that she could wear and she wore her mom's shoes!
I found some lemon fabric at Walmart for $2.97 per yard, and cut a circle to fit my table. I copied (tried!) Mary's vase within a vase method, found here. It was fun to do and lasted for several days. Limelight hydrangea, daisies, and lantana from my garden were used. Ella squeezed lemons for us to have fresh lemonade.
Ella says that "pasta is her life", and she loved this lemon pasta dish, which I had read about on Linda Stoll's blog . Thank you for the inspiration, Linda. Ella made the salami, with cucumbers, hummus and tomato appetizers for our plates. You can tell that she LOVES pasta!
A friend of mine uses netting with beads on the ends to cover food for outdoors. I bought some fine netting and put some cute strawberry buttons on the ends to cover our dessert tray. Flies on food is so unappetizing.
I made some lemon pudding mixed with whipped topping and used ground up chocolate cookies for old fashioned dirt cake, and planted some silk flowers in the pot. We also had lemon squares to complete our lemony meal.
Ella chose the bee teacup to coordinate with her bee t-shirt, and we had Tazo's Glazed Lemon Loaf tea. It was a fun day!
This is a very quick and easy lemony pasta.
- 1/2 box bow tie pasta
- 6 tablespoons butter
- zest and juice of one large lemon
- salt and pepper
- grated Parmesan cheese
- Cook the pasta until al dente, saving the pasta water.
- Melt the butter in a large skillet. Add the juice and zest of the lemon.
- Add the cooked pasta, and heat. Add some of the pasta water to keep it moist.
- Serve with grated Parmesan cheese.
I added some cooked shrimp to the leftover pasta for another easy meal.
My two youngest granddaughters came by for a few hours to spend with me, which is always fun!
Thank you for your visit! xo

Kitty, I always smile at your tea parties and luncheons with your granddaughters. It is heartwarming to think about the wonderful, special memories you are creating with these littles. A lemon theme is a winner in my mind! Everything looks tasty, and the dirt cake took me back to my classroom days. We made dirt cakes every year! Fun activity!!! Happy Monday!ReplyDelete

This is such a sweet tea party with Ella. Love the theme, yummy lemonade and pasta. You have so much fun with your grands, teaching them how to create fabulous tea parties. Hope you are enjoying the day..........ReplyDelete
Kitty, this is so incredibly cute! I love all your ideas, including those from friends (aren't blogging friends the BEST?!). The potted pudding is such a cute idea. I've done with the traditional cream cheese and oreo recipe, but must say yours sounds refreshing using lemon pudding - great idea! I love all things lemon and, like Ella, pasta could be my life, along with.........lol, definitely have to have the sweets. Thanks for always spreading joy with your family, teas, and recipes.ReplyDelete
Your granddaughters are so cute! Ella's quote about pasta is adorable, and I agree that lemon is a great theme for a tea party. Y'all are so cute! Thanks for the lemon pasta recipe. It sounds perfect for summer!ReplyDelete
What a perfect little afternoon tea party, Kitty. Everything is perfect!ReplyDelete
You nailed Mary's "vase in a vase" and I have the limelights and daisies in garden. Need to hit Cosco for lots of lemons now for that look too - it's gorgeous.
You have the cutest sweetest grand kids. Big hugs to beautiful you, too. ♥
The pasta sounds fantastic Kitty, wish I had some now... That's a well coordinated party theme and I like the food netting idea:@)ReplyDelete

A few years ago, my parents got me the Tazo Lemon Loaf tea when they crossed the border and went to one of the U.S. grocery stores. I really liked it and wished I could fit it in Canada!
Your grands are adorable Kitty! How fun to have a lemon-themed party and your vase and centerpiece turned out beautifully! What a bargain and pretty lemon fabric for a tablecloth. The pasta sounds delicious and I love sweet Ella is matching with her cute bee shirt! Happy Monday ♥ReplyDelete

Kitty, this is the cutest theme for summer! I love the potted pudding idea. I recall making my god child the dirt cake for his birthday when he was younger. Thanks for sharing your sweet family with us! 🍋 💛
What a sweet pair you are sitting there at that lemon-themed table. Lemon-flavoured pasta sound delicious.ReplyDelete
How fun! It looks like a fabulous party, with a fabulous menu! I love the netting idea, it's one I think I might try!ReplyDelete
So much to love about this post Kitty! I just love that you are sharing a lost art with your granddaughters-of having tea parties, and enjoying each other's company! And such creativity! I love the lemon theme with the flower pot dessert, the yummy pasta and the darling fresh flower vase too! And that netting cover is really a nice idea, I do hate the flies on food too. I've used an extra table cloth in the past, but I like the netting idea, because you can still see the food. Such a special time, I'm thankful you are making such special memories with your granddaughter!!!!ReplyDelete
I love the lemon fabric you found, so perfect for your patio tea party! So cute that Ella likes to dress to match, and your lemon vase turned out so pretty! I know the other girls hated to miss this, and the lemon pasta sounds light and delicious~ReplyDelete
Another lovely post ...ReplyDelete
