Happy Birthday Michael Lee

A little birdie informed me that Michael Lee West, fabulous author, hostess of Foodie Friday and creator of Rattlebridge Farm Blog is having an important birthday!!  Welcome to my home, Michael Lee!   Come on in...


 I've made something to celebrate your big day.  You so generously share ingredients for you Mystery Ingredient Club and I consider you to be the Queen of Gilding.   In your honor,  I've decorated some cupcakes especially for you.  

 
 We can sit awhile and I'll pour you some tea or coffee and we can enjoy a cupcake together.  Maybe you can tell me about the latest book you're working on.

 

 Some of the cupcakes have the sprinkles that you recently sent. 

 

 Some of the cupcakes I've decorated with sunflowers because of your sunny disposition!


 

To make the sunflower, you separate some mini Oreos and place in the middle of the cupcake.

 Using a star tip, you pipe on petals around the Oreo.


Next, you use a leaf tip and pipe on some green leaves.  Lastly, using some chocolate frosting and a plain tip (or cut the end off of a baggie and fill it), you pipe on the middle of the sunflower.  I can only aspire to be the Queen of Gilding!!

    Kitty, what a sweet birthday tribute to our friend Michael Lee West! I have never seen those fork candle holders - so stinkin cute! Thanks for the tutorial on the sunflower cupcakes. Sunflowers are my favorite flower, but I'll have to wait for my own birthday. Wishing a very happy birthday to our dear friend and queen of southern novels. xo

    Kitty, those cuppies are positively charming! If I ever "do" a sunflower tablescape, I am soooo copying this idea.
    I'm so glad you were able to join in the birthday celebrations for ML. I laughed at her title "the Queen of Gilding"...it is TRUE! She will decorate or embellish anything that stands still. LOL

    Can you eat cupcakes for breakfast? Oh I wish I had one~how brilliant to use the mini oreo for the sunflower center! I bet MLW wishes she could be sitting with you with a lovely cupcake and some tea! The fork candle holders are hilarious!

    A sweet birthday vignette. I've made sunflower cupcakes before too, although a little different than yours but they look cute and taste yummy.

    Kitty, the cupcakes look so yummy and just for the record, I have a birthday coming up in about eight months - lol!! What a cute idea to use the small Oreo, as a base for your sunflower petals! I am sure that Michael is honored to have such a nice birthday party prepared for him!

    Oh, you have not seen icing challenged until you see me. I just love those sunflower cupcakes and would love to try them. I don't have great expectations for me, but I would want to try them anyway.
