Strawberry Pie for Father's Day

My outdoor tea today is to honor two important men in my life.  They both died far too young, my Dad at age 60, and my hubby at age 64, and both from cancer.  I've included some gifts that my Dad gave me...a music box, and a sweet Goebel figurine of praying children.  My Dad, named Joe, was 100% Irish and he would've enjoyed drinking his cuppa Joe from my Shamrock colored mug.  My dearly beloved enjoyed hunting and being in the outdoors.  His hunting vest is my topper, and I've included a reversible hat that I made for him, one of his many caps and my pewter teapot that we served our tea from every weekend.  Much as my dear darling was a rough and tumble kind of guy, he was a tea drinker, and he would fix a thermos of tea to take along with him.

My dear Dad gave me away......

My dearly beloved Rich swept me away!

My hubby enjoyed drinking a big mug of tea, especially in this insulated one.

I started making this strawberry pie pie before I was married.  It was a favorite of my Dad's, my hubby and our whole family.  You can find the recipe here.

Thank you for letting me express my love for these two men in my life.  Without them, I would not be so richly blessed with my family. I know they are watching over us but it still does not take away the pain of losing them.

I am sharing this with:

Thank you for your visit!  xo

  1. You made me cry.
This was beautiful. You were a beautiful bride with two wonderful men in your life. I know this Father's Day, you'll be missing and remembering them both. My own dad died too young, too. He was 61, and it was that stinking cancer. I hate it. It's a murderer and a thief.

    Loved this whole post, Kitty.

  8. What a lovely post! I am sure both men are very proud of their "girl"! My dad died too young too, 50. I so missed him not there to see me graduate from college and give me away. But, they are always with us, in our hearts forever.
Have a great weekend! I'll say hey to the Kardashians for you, lol!

  9. These are treasured memories, Kitty.
It's amazing how certain dishes relate to family traditions and remind us of our beloved ones.
Your delicious looking strawberry is something very special and it's a "sweet" tradition to prepare it for Father's Day.
A big hug for you and thank you for this beautiful post.

  12. What a sweet tribute - and I enjoyed seeing the wedding photos. You were a beautiful bride and had two handsome men! Your pie looks awesome, Kitty. I want to make a fresh strawberry pie soon. A few weeks ago I made a baked strawberry pie. It was very good too. Tomorrow I'll be serving a Toffee pecan pie, made with heath bar bits (it was requested by my son, who is also a father.) Hugs to you, Beth

  20. What a lovely tribute to the two very special men in your life. I was so sorry to learn of your loss. But it sounds like you have WONDERFUL memories. Cancer is ugly! I have lost several family members to it. And my son still suffers the ravages of it. But faith is important! It helps so much I know. Much love to you Kitty.

  23. Beautiful tribute to your Dad and your hubby. Both of my men were taken because of cancer ... my Daddy at 63 and Mr. Dragon at 72 ... both way too early. They are always in our hearts. Happy Tea Day and many hugs.

  24. What a precious tribute, Kitty girl. I've cried off and on thru the last couple of days...I keep thinking that, as I age, I won't miss my daddy as much....but..."it ain't so". One never gets too old to miss their loved ones. Mr. Sweet turned 80 last April...I know time is getting shorter for us...well...i can't even finish this sentence...
    love to you...

  29. I know there's nothing at all that can replace them, but having the memories - both the tangibles and the thoughts - are nice to keep them alive in our hearts. I love it that ol' Mr. Rough-and-Tumble Irishman Rich loved a good cuppa!

I am so sorry for the ache you feel over their loss. Very blessed to know you keep on moving ahead, slow as the pace may be. The pie sounds and looks fabulous - SUCH a special treat.
